DAP parliamentarian Teo Kok Seong has been summoned to give his statement to the police over the Tangkap Malaysian Official 1 (Tangkap MO1) rally.

As he was not one of the organisers, Teo said he did not think that he would be summoned for his statement.

“I am not the organiser. My presence was to support the student group.

“I was invited to speak on a lorry at Masjid Negara, maybe that's why I am summoned,” he told Malaysiakini.

The Rasah MP said police had summoned him using Section 112 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CPC).

Teo is expected to give his statement at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters tomorrow.

Apart from Teo, the rally’s organisers and several activists have also been called in for their statements to be recorded.

Among them are Tangkap MO1 spokesperson Anis Syafiqah Md Yusof and fellow students Luqman Nul Hakim, Aqilah Zainuzi, Luqman Hakim and Suhail Wan Azahar.

Suara Rakyat Malaysia (Suaram) coordinator Amir Abd Hadi and activist Isaiah Jacob are also expected to give their statements to the police.

Like Teo, all seven of them will provide police with their statements at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters.

The Tangkap MO1 rally, held last Saturday, was to pressure authorities to arrest ‘Malaysian Official 1', the mysterious figure that the US Department of Justice claims bagged US$731 million in stolen 1MDB funds.

Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) denied the organisers permission to gather at Dataran Merdeka and police action was expected as their notice to the police under the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012 was declared as not valid, since there was no assent from the venue owner.

The rally saw more than 1,000 people thronging the streets near Dataran Merdeka. The rally ended peacefully, without any untoward incident.
