An embattled Najib plays the sympathy card

YOURSAY | ‘We’re not asking you to be a superhuman, all we ask is for you to have integrity.’

PM: I'm only human who has weaknesses

Commentable: How about that, MO1 (Malaysian Official 1) talking about his weaknesses? By "weaknesses", does he mean his urge to get rich quick, never mind by hook or by crook, to amass billions of ringgit overnight or maybe he was referring to his passion in wielding absolute dictatorial power?

Would it also include his weaknesses in the ability to tell the truth or being honest or knowing when to throw in the towel?

Perhaps his other weaknesses include the huge political baggage that he has accumulated over the 40 years in the world of politics. So yes, this is the kind of baggage that is beyond the control of any prime minister.

With such tainted constraints, there is little point in continuing all this talk about the struggle to pursue this or that. Smooth words coming from those lips on the pretext that it is for the advancement of religion and the country.

Umno is struggling today because of you. For there are already too many who are able to see through your hypocrisy by now.

Wg321: PM Najib Razak is now playing the sympathy card after he was exposed by BN strategic communications director Abdul Rahman Dahlan that he was MO1.

FellowMalaysian: Najib is displaying symptoms and signs of a Muslim leader who has reached the tail-end of his useful life and upon deep reflection, he is pleading for forgiveness from those he may have done wrong before he calls it a day.

Najib's portent is all there for anyone who cares enough to read and decipher the speeches and messages which he has lately been giving.

Which country's leader will make an unexpected disclosure which will likely reflect unfavourably on him; like making self-declarations of personal weaknesses and offering reasons for his misconduct and aberrations?

Lately, Najib has not been that tough-talking 'never say die' macho leader any more – it’s like he has come to realise his wrongdoings and now seemingly pleading for forgiveness and compassion.

Could this signify the beginning of the end of a leader who many will choose to forget than to remember?

Awang Top: Najib, we are not asking you to be a superhuman, all we ask is for you to have integrity, which you have none, and be fair to all, which you have not.

Anonymous 1890491455255851: Yes, we all have weaknesses, but the big question is if you are truly innocent, why is it so hard to tell the truth?

And whilst a prime minister may not know everything, as finance minister, to say you are not responsible for the laundering of billions from our sovereign fund, is unconscionable. Ultimately the buck stops with you.

Roger 5201: If only he had come clean from day one, we would not be in the mess we are in today. What religious advancement is he talking about when God never taught us to take what is not ours.

SusahKes: Abraham Lincoln said, "Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power."

You, sir, I find, are being petty, lamenting about weaknesses when the rest of us would not come anywhere near a trifle of a RM2.6 billion in our lifetime. Shouldn't you have done better, with all the resources that you had at your disposal?

Instead, you have bequeathed us with a legacy of debts, made us into a global laughing stock with the 1MDB kleptocracy case, and to top it off, an impending move towards dictatorship with the new security laws in place.

Tan Kim Keong: What do you mean by advancement of religion? Living a life that is an exemplary manifestation of what your religion is or just putting up more institutions and religious laws to show how your religion has advanced?

Secondly, what do you mean by advancement for the country bearing in mind it is citizens who make up the country? Is it empowering the citizens so that they will advance the country, or putting up more laws and controls on citizens?

Pahatian: His experience of over 40 years in the world of politics and government had indeed taught him much on administration matters. But then he mastered and perfected one only, and that is corruption.

Multi Racial: Yes, everyone has weaknesses and everyone makes mistake. And like everyone if you break the law, you have to face the consequences.

You once said, nobody is above the law in this great nation. And you are absolutely right about that.

Anonymous #44199885: All humans are weak but that is no excuse for the excesses of your leadership, your failure to rein in corruption, your failure to denounce extremism and bigotry, your failure to observe the rule of law, your failure to be honest to the nation, your failure to answer the allegations of misappropriation as stated by the US Department of Justice (DOJ), your continued and disturbing ambition and intent to cling on to power despite evidence of culpability in corrupt acts and your actions, aided willingly by the cabinet and others of high office, to destroy the nation's institutions and make Malaysia known for kleptocracy.

We can forgive weakness only if there is contrition and repentance. You have not presented these to Malaysia.

Instead you continue to invent lies after lies and your allies continue to doggedly display abhorrence for the constitution and rule of law and abject dishonesty and evil intent towards Malaysians who display patriotism in defending the honour of our country.
