Kembara Merdeka convoy to highlight functions of Protection Division

Thirty superbikers are taking part in a 1,000km Kembara Merdeka convoy trip organised by the Protection Division of the Prime Minister's Department, beginning today until Monday.

The division's director-general Mazlan Lazim, who led the convoy, said the programme, which was being held in conjunction with the National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations, was aimed at introducing the functions and role of the Protection Division to the public.

"The convoy participants will shout 'Merdeka' at each pit stop, namely Port Dickson, Malacca, Muar, Johor Baru, Mersing and Kota Tinggi before returning to Putrajaya.

"The convoy will also provide information about the rights of individuals who become witnesses in any court case to apply for protection from this department if they feel they are being threatened by any party," he told reporters at the flag-off of the convoy.

The convoy was flagged off by Shukri Mohd Salleh, the principal private secretary to the prime minister.
