Dewan Rakyat Speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia has challenged DAP lawmaker Lim Lip Eng not to attend parliament proceedings when he is chairing them.

He said the Segambut MP should do so if he refused to recognise the position of a speaker appointed under Article 57(1)(a) of the Federal Constitution.

"I am disappointed with YB Segambut's attitude of not respecting the position of a speaker appointed based on the Federal Constitution.

"I will also not respect a YB who does not respect the constitution," he added in a media statement this afternoon.

Pandikar also challenged Lim to criticise the opposition who nominated a former judge and not an individual who won in the election for the speaker post on the first day of parliament proceedings after the 2013 general election.

Last week, the speaker gave Lim the marching orders from the Parliament's special chamber.

The incident happened when Lim was about to begin his adjournment speech with a question to the Federal Territories Ministry on Kuala Lumpur City Hall's budget.

Speaking to reporters later, Lim said he told Pandikar: "We're elected by the people, you're appointed by MO1."

'MO1' is in reference to an individual dubbed 'Malaysian Official 1' in the United States Department of Justice lawsuits to seize 1MDB-linked assets, which alleged that US$730 million originating from 1MDB went to MO1.

A review of the footage of the session showed that the exchange sparked off when Lim told the speaker not to lecture him.

The speaker was taking the MP to task for earlier telling him to resign over alleged failure to implement improvements in Parliament.

Pandikar said the special chamber is evidence of improvements made.

When Lim stood to tell the speaker to stop "lecturing him", Pandikar replied: "If you can lecture about me out there, and the public reads it and you enjoy it, and when I am lecturing you (inside) the chamber, in my authority, you don't want to listen to me."

Lim took issue with Pandikar's pointing, escalating the war of words.
