Reds meet Blues at Mkini; ex-EC chief in Bersatu told to right past wrongs

KINI ROUNDUP Here are the key headlines you may have missed yesterday, in brief.

Red shirts standoff at M'kini

Some 700 red shirts led by Sungai Besar Umno chief Jamal Md Yunos protested at Malaysiakini's office in Petaling Jaya, but dispersed after a stand-off with police.

However, Jamal claimed his protesters numbered 10,000.

After the protest, Jamal and his red shirts proceeded to collect trash from the event and dumped them at the gates of Malaysiakini's office.

Meanwhile, Malaysiakini editor-in-chief Steven Gan denied the news portal's content was controlled by foreigners, stressing its journalists are responsible for its content.

Bersih tells ex-EC chief in Bersatu to redeem himself

While the anti-Bersih red shirts were at Malaysiakini, Bersih's ceramah in Klang went on without incident.

Speaking at the function, former Bersih co-chairperson Ambiga Sreenevasan questioned how former EC chief Abdul Rashid Abdul Rahman, who has joined Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), plans to redeem himself for alleged gerrymandering to keep Umno in power in the past.

Bersih's roadshow in Malacca, however, was harassed and pelted with eggs.

In a related development, former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad said he was more focused on the Bersih protest than the organisation's alleged funding linked to US billionaire George Soros.

Communications and Multimedia Minister Salleh Said Keruak said Mahathir has fallen to his lowest over the comment as it was the former prime minister who had made an enemy of Soros when he was in power.
