The admission that there are leakages in Felda by its new chairperson Shahrir Samad has been lauded by the National Oversight and Whistleblowers (NOW) group.
However, NOW executive director Akmal Nasir said Shahrir needs to do more, so that Felda can recover the losses it suffered due to leakages, and for those responsible to be brought to justice.
Among others, Akmal wants to know when the Felda chairperson will lodge a report with the police and Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.
"What plans and action will be taken to get back the money lost due to leakages?" he asked further in a statement today.
Shahrir yesterday told a press conferences that there were leakages in Felda, more specifically in investment arm Felda Investment Corporation Sdn Bhd (FIC).
He had instructed all FIC board members to resign in order to facilitate a restructuring of the company.
FIC is a subsidiary of Felda tasked with engaging in non-plantation related ventures.
Other measures Shahrir had undertaken to absorb its losses, was to sell of its 1.9 percent stake in Maybank for RM280 million, as well as plans to liquidate a hotel it owns in London.
Meanwhile PAS' Felda affairs bureau also echoed that FIC leaders responsible for the leakages should not get away with it.
"We suggest that the government make an immediate open ivestigation through the authorities, and also establish an independent commission made up of leaders trusted by the public to monitor the sale of (Felda) assets and investigate the transparency of the deals," bureau chief Naraza Muda said in a statement.
