The crown prince of Johor Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim can lead the Football Association Malaysia (FAM) to success as he has a good track record, said Amanah deputy president Salahuddin Ayub.

"I am confident that the Johor crown prince should be given the chance to lead FAM.

"My choice is not based on the fact that I am a Johorean but as a Malaysian, I see that he has a track record to be proud of," Salahuddin said in a statement today.

As a football fan since young, he said he hopes the sport can reach the level of excellence back in the 1960's till 1980's.

FAM needs a new era of administration, he said, and this can only be achieved if it's leadership is handed to someone who is truly capable of improving the standards of football locally to an international level.

He believes that Tunku Ismail is the man for the job as under his leadership, the Johor football team has done well, he said.

"I urge and hope that FAM can immediately stop this era of controversies.

"I also hope that we can prevent politicians with no integrity from leading FAM, and that we give the opportunity to the crown prince of Johor," he said.

If these can be done, he said, he is confident that FAM can achieve its heydays again as well as qualifying for the next World Cup.

There have been many other names mooted to lead FAM next such as Umno information chief Annuar Musa and Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin.

Tunku Ismail and Annuar have also been involved in an exchange which resulted in the prince revealing documents allegedly showing Mara sponsoring the Kelantan football team.

Annuar, who was the Mara chairperson, was in charge of the Kelantan football team at that time.

He has since been suspended from his position in Mara pending an investigation.
