A Physical Education teacher was today sentenced to 24 years' jail and 12 strokes of the cane by the Selayang Sessions Court for raping his student.
Judge Tasnim Abu Bakar handed down the sentence on Mohd Ezlie Azram Mohammad Khasasi, 38, after finding him guilty on two counts of raping the girl.
Mohd Ezlie Azram was sentenced to 12 years' jail and six strokes of the cane on each count, to be served consecutively from today.
However, the court allowed a stay of the sentence following a request by Mohd Ezlie Azram's lawyer to file an appeal at the High Court.
Mohd Ezlie Azram , who is also a silat teacher, was charged with raping the student in 2011 when she was 11-years-old, and again in 2013 when she was 13 years-old.
Both the offences were committed at a house in Selayang.
The teacher, who is divorced with two children, was charged under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code which provides an imprisonment for up to 20 years and whipping upon conviction.
Deputy public prosecutor Wan Shahida Wan Omar prosecuted, while Mohd Ezlie Azram was represented by lawyers Dony Abdullah and Farhan Read.
