S’gor exco wants improvements to Suke flood mitigation plan
Exco in charge of infrastructure works Zaidy Abdul Talib said the Selangor government is satisfied at that mitigation plan put forward by the contactor of the Sungai Besi-Ulu Kelang Elevated Expressway (Suke) after a flood incident last month.
“In a visit to the Suke project site at Taman Bukit Teratai Ampang, the Selangor government was satisfied at the mitigation plan which includes the construction of widened drainage.
“However, the Selangor government is still not satisfied at the design and maintenance of the retention pond and mud trap."
Exco in charge of infrastructure works Zaidy Abdul Talib said the Selangor government is satisfied at the mitigation plan put forward by the contactor of the Sungai Besi-Ulu Kelang Elevated Expressway (Suke) after a flood incident last month.
“In a visit to the Suke project site at Taman Bukit Teratai Ampang, the Selangor government was satisfied at the mitigation plan which includes the construction of widened drainage.
“However, the Selangor government is still not satisfied at the design and maintenance of the retention pond and mud trap.
“Therefore, the Selangor government has instructed upgrading works to be carried out immediately,” he said in a statement yesterday.
In April, residents of Taman Bukit Teratai complained that they had faced two floods in two months after downpours.
They claimed this had never happened until the construction of the Suke started.
Zaidy later blamed the floods on Suke contractors failing to comply with flood mitigation measures as outlined by the state government.
Zaidy said the latest site visit by the state government, which took place on May 15, was to ensure compliance to development rules and also to monitor the remedial measures undertaken following the floods.
The exco said he had also visited the project site of the East Klang Valley Expressway (EKVE) around Felda Semungkis, Batu 14 in Hulu Langat.
Zaidy said the Selangor government was satisfied with the upgrades and improvements carried out at the site to prevent flooding.
He stressed that the state government will conduct site visits from time to time to ensure compliance.
