Some 1,400 alleged phantom voters have been uncovered in Sekinchan, claimed the constituency’s elected representative Ng Suee Lim.

The clearest example of this, he said, can be found in the Malay village of Jalan Parit 8 Baroh, Sg Leman.

“It is a traditional Malay village. Since time immemorial, only Malays live here; no Chinese nor Indian households.

“Suddenly 419 Indian and 100 Chinese voters changed their address to Jalan Parit 8. This morning I had brought some journalists to check, and we did not find any Indian nor Chinese households.

“How can there be 419 Indians and 100 Chinese voters transferred here? It's unthinkable,” the DAP assemblyperson told Malaysiakini when contacted.

In addition, he said there are also eight Orang Asli being transferred to Sekinchan, which is ‘unusual’ for the constituency.

The transfers are part of the Election Commission’s (EC) proposed supplementary electoral roll for the first quarter of 2017.

Ng said objections had been filed against the alleged phantom voters, and the EC has fixed June 15, 21, 22, and 23 to hear the objections.

He also dismissed Sungai Besar Umno chief Jamal Md Yunos’ allegation of him bringing in phantom voters into Sekinchan, as baseless.

Ng said he headed a similar exercise to detect phantom voters in the proposed supplementary electoral roll for the fourth quarter of 2016, and uncovered some 1,200 alleged phantom voters.

The said the objections against these voters were successful, as none of the objected voters had turned up at the hearing.
