PM backs Zahid's loyalty

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak expressed confidence that his deputy Ahmad Zahid Hamidi will not side with Dr Mahathir Mohamad, pointing out that Zahid was previously detained by the former prime minister under the Internal Security Act (ISA) and likening it to a pistol place at Zahid's head.

Umno supreme council member Rosnah Abdul Rashid Shirlin said Mahathir's attempt to drive a wedge between Najib and Zahid diminishes respect for him.

Another Umno supreme council Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz said Mahathir's family wealth should also be investigated after Mahathir alleged Zahid had RM230 million in his bank account when he declared his assets to the prime minister in 1996.

DAP accused of drumming Malay sentiment

Zahid claimed DAP's win in Raub was because the party played up the Malay sentiment by fielding a Malay candidate.

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, who officiated the Shah Alam Umno division meeting, indicated in his speech the BN's goal of capturing the seat of power in Selangor.

Malacca Chief Minister Idris Haron said BN will field new faces for all state seats in Malacca after several incumbent state assemblypersons indicated that they planned to retire.

Rosmah seeks more Permata funding from PM

The prime minister's wife Rosmah Mansor lamented budget constraints for the early childhood programme Permata and said Permata would try to convince the finance minister, who is also her husband, for more funding.

She also clarified on her trip to London in May, stating that she visited Oxford University to seek entry for Permata students and wasn't there on a holiday.
