Dr Mahathir Mohamad's family wealth should similarly be investigated after the former prime minister cast the spotlight on Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's wealth.

Tourism and Culture Minister Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz said this in reference to Mahathir claiming that Zahid had RM230 million in his bank account when he declared his assets to the prime minister in 1996.

"If Zahid is courageous enough to state that he is willing to be investigated, I do not think it is fair if he is the only one investigated.

"The person who made the accusation should also be investigated because his children are rich.

"We want to know how his children suddenly became rich," he was quoted as saying by Utusan Malaysia after attending the Padang Rengas Umno division delegates' meeting today.

Echoing this was Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein, who is also Umno vice president.

"We shouldn't play to their tune. Mahathir should also be investigated," he told the same press conference.

Hishammuddin had officiated the opening of the delegates' meeting.
