The disagreement over whether negotiations should continue with PAS spills over to Facebook, with a DAP state assemblyperson “unfriending” two PKR lawmakers.

In a posting, Tebing Tinggi assemblyperson Ong Boon Piow said he wanted to “unfriend the double-faced leaders.”

“Pakatan (Harapan) is moving forward,” he added in reference to the opposition coalition comprising DAP, PKR, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia and Amanah.

Ong even included images of him confirming the “unfriend” action on his Facebook page with regard to PKR vice-presidents Tian Chua and Shamsul Iskandar Md Akin.

Contacted later, Ong said his “small” action was in solidarity with the PKR faction opposed to continuing talks with PAS.

Responding to a question, Ong was not concerned about his action being perceived as childish or drawing brickbats.

“This is confined within my personal account and I did not ask others to follow me...

“If I wrote (an article) about it, others may say I am interfering with the party's internal matter,” he told Malaysiakini.

Therefore, Ong said the least he could do was to remove PKR leaders seen as supporting the need to engage PAS from his Facebook friends list.

Differences in PKR over this issue have been simmering for more than a year, but the situation boiled over after Selayang MP William Leong resigned from the party's political bureau last week.

Leong said he hoped his resignation would convince the PKR leadership to rethink continuing negotiations with PAS.

Yesterday, the Pakatan Harapan presidential council decided to immediately end cooperation with PAS.
