DAP has stated its intention to field a candidate for one of the three parliamentary seats in the Johor Baru vicinity, according to party parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang.

"DAP is keen to contest in one of the three Johor Baru parliamentary constituencies, even the most difficult one - Johor Baru.

"The final decision on whether DAP is to contest in one of the three parliamentary constituencies in Johor Baru will be made by the Harapan leadership," said Lim in a statement today.

This is the second time in as many weeks where Lim has publicly coveted seats which are not "traditionally" allocated to DAP.

On Aug 19, Lim said DAP could help Harapan win in Kedah if the party was allowed to contest in Kulim and Gurun, two Kedah state seats allocated to PKR during the last general election.

As for the Johor Baru vicinity, Lim said BN's majority in the three seats - Pasir Gudang, Tebrau, and Johor Baru - have been steadily declining, hence presenting an opportunity for Harapan.

"If this trend continues, then Umno and BN will lose two if not all three parliamentary constituencies in Johor Baru.

"This means that Umno and BN are likely to lose Johor Baru as the sole state capital won by their candidates in the forthcoming elections, whether this year or next," he said.

Like the case of Kedah, Lim's suggestion will likely ruffle PKR's feathers because the latter was assigned by the defunct Pakatan Rakyat to field candidates in all three seats mentioned.

Last Friday, Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak commended Johor Baru Umno for retaining the Johor Bahru parliamentary seat while noting that it is the only state capital in BN's hands.

This, said Najib, was proof that Umno was not a mere "village party" but could flourish in urban areas as well.
