DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang said Pakatan Harapan must accept the reality that it will need to engage in three-cornered fights with PAS and BN.

"Harapan parties and leaders must face the political reality that there will be three-cornered fights involving PAS, even in Selangor, in the 14th General Election.

This is why the earlier this political reality is faced, the greater the chances that Harapan can beat Umno/BN even in three-cornered fights to bring about a change of a federal government in Putrajaya and the Johor government in Nusajaya for the first time in the nation’s history," he said in a statement today.

Describing that Harapan was "fighting against time", Lim emphasised the importance of the coalition in providing clarity.

"There is a need for a clarity of the political situation without any delay, and just as it is important that there should be time to reach out to the 3.5 million Umno members that Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak must be defeated to save Malaysia from global kleptocracy.

"Time is also needed to explain to the million PAS members that PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang’s support for Najib and his global kleptocracy is something former PAS stalwarts Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat, Fadzil Noor or Yusof Rawa would never have countenanced or supported," he said.

Lim added the notion that three-cornered fights will benefit BN may not necessarily be true with new political dynamics in the country.

"I believe that if there is a three-cornered electoral contest in Johor in the 14 General Election, PAS will not win a single state assembly seat in Johor and the percentage of votes polled in the state by PAS candidates will be reduced to between 5 percent to 8 percent.

"This is because I do not believe that the majority of the PAS voters will agree with Hadi’s political support for Najib, the 1MDB and Malaysia becoming a global kleptocracy," he said.

Lim stressed that Harapan must seize on the current momentum and should not turn back to "dilly-dallying and procrastination".

PKR had in recent weeks seen fissures within the party as leaders debated on whether they should continue engaging PAS in electoral negotiations.

Yesterday, PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim in a letter said his stance remains that the door should be kept open to PAS.

He also addressed concerns that delays due to negotiations with PAS could affect Harapan's electoral preparations, stating that the urgency all the more meant that PKR should be united and move swiftly.
