It may not be official, but Amanah president Mohamad Sabu may be fielded in Selangor in the upcoming general election.

The former PAS 'lion' was named today by Selangor Amanah chairperson Izham Hashim in his speech officiating their party convention in Ampang Jaya, Selangor today.

“I am happy to announce that Selangor Amanah will put a few national big names as candidates in the Selangor parliamentary and state seats.

“We are committed to offering the best candidates through Pakatan Harapan, to the people of Selangor to ensure the continuity of the Selangor Harapan government and the new federal Harapan government,” said Izham.

Apart from Mohamad, among the big names mentioned were vice president Hasanuddin Mohd Yunus, communications director Khalid Samad, strategy director Dzulkefli Ahmad, Wanita chief Siti Mariah Mahmud and Sepang MP Hanipa Maidin.

Selangor Amanah leaders Saari Sungib and Hasnul Baharuddin were also mooted as candidates to be fielded in Selangor.

With the exception of Hasanuddin who was previously active in a non-governmental organisation, the other names announced by Izham were former PAS leaders.

Mohamad had won the parliamentary seat of Kubang Kerian in 1995 and Kuala Kedah in 1999.

However, he failed to defend Kuala Kedah in the 2004 general election and was defeated in the Kuala Terengganu and Pendang parliamentary seats in the 2008 and 2013 general elections.

Meanwhile, Mohamad in a press conference later said Izham's speech was a mere suggestion and the matter will be discussed at both the party and Harapan level.

Izham, who was also present during the press conference, said he was serious about the suggestion.

"The (party) divisions and the state have the right to make suggestions. Now at the state level, we are suggesting three names so we are suggesting that he contests in Selangor.

"Furthermore, he stays in Selangor," added Izham.
