DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang said PAS' boast of capturing five states in the next general election is an impossibility.

"PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang had boasted that PAS would win five state governments in the 14 General Election, namely Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah, Pahang and Selangor.

"There is no possibility whatsoever of PAS winning Terengganu, Kedah, Pahang and Selangor although the question is open as to whether PAS would lose power in Kelantan which PAS had won for six consecutive general elections since 1999," Lim said in a statement today.

The only way this could be possible, Lim said, was some form of arrangement between PAS and Umno.

"Would Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak agree to allow PAS to run five state governments in Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah, Pahang and Selangor while Najib concentrates on winning Umno parliamentary seats - even to the extent of winning back the two-thirds parliamentary majority for Umno/BN in Parliament?" he asked.

Lim conceded that this theory may be "very far-fetched" but Pakatan Harapan must be well prepared including in Selangor, which is presently under the control of the coalition.

"Selangor Harapan must be all-systems-go to ensure that the four component parties win the majority of the Selangor state assembly seats to continue to govern the state even in a three-cornered contest with PAS as spoiler," he said.

In this regard, the Gelang Patah MP congratulated Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali on the formation of the Selangor Harapan leadership structure.

"I do not see PAS having the remotest possibility of winning the Selangor state government on its own steam.

"In fact, PAS in Selangor will be struggling just to win one state assembly seat in the next general election," he said.

Lim said ultimately, PAS achieved its best results in Selangor when it cooperated with DAP and PKR in 1999, 2008 and 2013 where it won four, eight and 15 state seats respectively.

He added that in all the other nine general elections from 1959 to 2004, PAS won nothing in Selangor, with the exception of 1974 when Umno conceded a seat to PAS as both were part of BN at that time.
