The Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) has placed on standby two types of aircraft to transport humanitarian relief supplies to the Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh who had fled alleged suppression in Myanmar, Air Force chief Affendi Buang said today.

The RMAF was ready to fly the aircraft, the Charlie C130 and A400M, with the supplies to Bangladesh once the government made a request, he said to reporters after launching a 1Family Sports Carnival at the RMAF Subang airbase.

“Last Saturday, we undertook the first humanitarian supplies mission. We are now waiting for word from the government to undertake the next. We will select between the two aircraft to undertake the mission. The A400M will be useful if the quantity of supplies is huge,” he said.

On Sept 9, Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak launched a humanitarian mission to send 12 tonnes of food and other needs to Chittagong in Bangladesh by two A400M aircraft of the RMAF.

On the sports carnival, Affendi said it was held to foster greater goodwill among personnel of the RMAF.

The highlight of the carnival would be on Nov 18 at the RMAF Subang air base where 15,000 RMAF personnel would gather to participate in various sports, including futsal, golf, and badminton.
