Forex RCI pins Nor Yakcop, blames Dr M, Anwar

The royal commission of inquiry (RCI) into Bank Negara's forex losses in the 1990s found Nor Mohamed Yackop liable, while implicating former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad and his then-deputy Anwar Ibrahim of abetting the crime.

The RCI also said Bank Negara's activities then had a significant impact on Malaysia's economy.

The RCI then lodged a police report over their findings.

Anwar's lawyer denied that the former deputy prime minister had misled the cabinet on the forex losses.

MACC nabs Azmin's nephew

The MACC arrested and remanded Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali's nephew and three others over allegations of bribing authorities to turn a blind eye to illegal sand mining activities.

Azmin denied awarding his nephew any tenders, saying he did not sit on the board of the company that handles land mining tenders.

His office issued a statement claiming there was an "evil conspiracy" behind the leak of information regarding the arrest.
