MCA has clarified that the government will continue funding Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (TAR UC), refuting allegations to the contrary made by DAP lawmaker Teo Kok Seong.

It also demanded an apology from the Rasah MP, who yesterday held a press conference in parliament demanding answers to why “not a single sen” was allocated to the MCA-owned university in Budget 2018, Free Malaysia Today reported.

In response, MCA quoted a statement by the Higher Education Ministry that said TAR UC was allocated RM30 million for 2018.

Thus, DAP should stop making “groundless allegations” against MCA and BN, the party said.

“Education should never be politicised. As one of the numerous DAP elected representatives who have benefitted from MCA’s education projects, rather than baselessly berating MCA, DAP MP for Rasah Teo Kok Seong (photo) should acknowledge MCA’s immense contributions towards enabling multiracial Malaysians to pursue quality higher education, thereby opening multi-sectoral opportunities for all.

“It is now incumbent for Teo to apologise for his fallacious accusation,” said MCA in a statement today.

Teo revealed yesterday that TAR UC was his alma mater.

In its statement, the Higher Education Ministry also explained that the RM30 million allocation had been listed under OS4200 (Pemberian Dalam Negeri) Butiran 040000 (Pengurusan Sektor Pengajian Tinggi).

Prior to holding a press conference, Teo, along with MCA Tanjung Piai Wee Jeck Seng, had posed questions about Utar’s allocation to Higher Education Minister Idris Jusoh during the debate on the Supplies Bill 2018 yesterday.
