Four members of a family, comprising two senior citizens and two young boys, died in what the authorities believe to be murder cum arson, in Tanjung Sepat, Selangor, early today.

According to a report in the Malay Mail Online, the dead were identified as Lim Mai Shak, 68, Chia Tee Nang, 73, and Chua Yan Bin, three.

Authorities are currently in the process of identifying the fourth victim, a nine-year-old.

Selangor police CID chief Fadzil Ahmat was quoted as saying that slash and stab wounds were found on three out of four victims, leading the police to classify the case as murder.

"Crime scene investigators from Selangor police found injuries consistent with slashing on three of the victims. All are believed to have been murdered, and then burned.

"We are also investigating claims they were robbed, and that possibly this was an act of revenge," Fadzil reportedly said in a statement, adding that the cause of the death will only be known when the postmortem reports are released.

Police received a distress call about the fire about 5.50am this morning, and at the scene, investigators found traces of accelerants around the fuel tank of the family car, which they believe was used to make a fire big enough to raze the wooden house.

Following suspicion of arson, a closer examination of the bodies led to the discovery of the wounds.

The report also quoted Kuala Langat police chief Azizan Tukiman saying that the sole survivor of the incident, a 12-year-old boy, was still traumatised by the incident.
