Pakatan Harapan’s decision to name Bersatu chairperson Dr Mahahtir Mohamad as the coalition’s choice for prime minister is the 'right decision', Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said today in a sarcastic swipe at the opposition coalition.

He said it shows that Harapan has no one more qualified than Mahathir to take on the post, who will, he said, continue to damage the country.

“The resolution made by Harapan at their recent assembly is correct, excellent and spot-on because he (Mahathir) has contributed much to the country over 22 years

“God willing, if he is restored to his post, he will then repeat the mistakes of the past.

“This is the sort of recycling that the people have been waiting to see; that Harapan has no one more qualified than this person who has contributed much to this country and continues to damage and commit wrongdoing onto this country,” Zahid told a press conference in Kuala Lumpur today.

The DPM was speaking to reporters after launching a Crime Prevention Education Convention organised by the Malaysian Crime Prevention Foundation.

Zahid, who is also the home minister, is the foundation’s chairperson.

Harapan had named Mahathir as its candidate for prime minister if it wins the next general election during its convention on Sunday.

PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail was named as his deputy.

The decision has caused some unhappiness within the coalition’s ranks including amongst Selangor PKR leaders who have voiced their disgruntlement.
