Pakatan Harapan will limit the term of the post of prime minister to only two terms and will alienate the finance minister’s post from the prime minister’s portfolio.

Bersatu deputy president Mukhriz Mahathir said the proposal was among those listed in the manifesto of the opposition pact if they wins GE14.

He said the opposition pact would also propose that the appointment of the inspector-general of police, attorney-general, head of election commission, head of MACC and auditor-general should go through parliament first and not be appointed based on the prime minister’s recommendation.

Mukhriz disclosed this at the official launch of the Setiawangsa Bersatu division in Kuala Lumpur today.

Meanwhile Bersatu chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who was a former prime minister for 22 years in his speech, said Bersatu’s struggle was for all 30 million Malaysians.

“Every Malaysian has the right to elect their leaders through democracy. If Harapan is not united, we will not be able to compete in the coming GE14,” he said.

At a media conference after the Setiawangsa Bersatu launch, Mahathir said he has made a decision to contest in only the three parliamentary constituencies proposed, namely Putrajaya, Langkawi or Kubang Pasu.

“Thank you Mohamed Azmin Ali for his offer for me to contest in Gombak,” he said when referring to the offer by the Selangor menteri besar, who was willing to give way to the Bersatu chairperson to stand in the Gombak parliamentary seat.
