Selangor Pakatan Harapan is currently in the process of negotiating the state seats within the coalition, said its secretary Zuraida Kamaruddin.

“Selangor Pakatan Harapan, led by PKR, is in the process of seat negotiations for state seats in the upcoming 14th general elections.

“To ensure this goes smoothly, the Selangor Pakatan Harapan electoral committee meetings, led by Seri Andalas assemblyperson Xavier Jeyakumar, have been held four times,” Zuraida, who is also the PKR Wanita chief, said in a statement today.

She was responding to claims by Selangor Amanah communications director Jamzuri Ardani (photo), who had said that no committee had been formed yet to discuss seat negotiations in Selangor.

It is even more inaccurate, she said, to claim that there are “secret negotiations” within Selangor PKR to bring in PAS to form a political pact in Selangor.

“Selangor Pakatan Harapan chairperson Mohamed Azmin Ali’s commitment to his position should also not be questioned.

“For the record, we have had two meetings chaired by him. It is also widely known that the efforts by the Selangor state in protesting against the Election Commission’s redelineation proposal has produced results and prevented the attempts to redelineate 18 parliamentary seats.

“This is a big achievement which will hinder BN’s plan to take Selangor back, specifically,” she said.

Zuraida also reiterated that seat negotiations are a complicated process which takes time.

It requires thorough research and consideration, including at the grassroots level, she added.

Not only that, Selangor Harapan wants to divvy up the seats fairly in terms of the numbers as well as based on the winnability of the seats due to various factors, stressed Zuraida.

“I hope no one tries to purposely trivialise all the efforts that Selangor Pakatan Harapan has done and willfully lets us be broken up by Umno/BN who are desperate to snatch Selangor.

“In facing the mother of all elections this time, we have to be smart in our strategy and utilise a suitable approach to maintain our state government which has an excellent administration,” she said.
