A group of MCA Youth members held a demonstration to demand an apology from Tourism and Culture Minister Nazri Aziz over his remarks on business tycoon Robert Kuok and MCA.

The demonstration was held outside Wisma MCA in Kuala Lumpur today, amidst the party’s 69th-anniversary celebration at the MCA headquarters.

“Actually, today we did not intend to hold any demonstration but this is the wishes from the grassroots.

"We respect what the grassroots want and we held a demonstration,” said MCA Youth secretary-general Leong Kim Soon (centre in photo) to reporters after the demonstration.

They want Nazri to apologise to all in the Chinese community, he added.

The protesters held up banners with Chinese writings demanding an apology. Some of the banners also featured a red cross imposed over pictures of Nazri.

The demonstration, which had about 30 people, consisted of MCA Youth as well as MCA Wanita members, Leong said.

Nazri and MCA are currently embroiled in a feud after the minister launched a vitriolic attack on Kuok, who was accused by blogger Raja Petra Kamaruddin of bankrolling DAP.

MCA leaders had accused Nazri of doing them and BN a disservice, claiming that the minister’s attack on a respected business magnate would irk the Chinese community and benefit DAP.
