Index crime for Malaysia has decreased by 53 percent from 2010 until 2017.
According to National Transformation Programme (NTP) Annual Report 2017 Review, it is a result of continuous efforts to reduce the nation’s overall index crime to provide a safer future for all citizens.
The report also contains the following observations:
- Public’s fear of crime in Kuala Lumpur dropped to 31 percent from 61 percent in 2016
- The perception of the public’s fear of being a victim of crime in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Penang and Johor dropped 40 percent in 2017
- 1,687 community engagements carried out by the Royal Malaysia Police to improve the public’s sense of security
- 64 high-risk areas have been covered by the Community Empowerment Programme (CEP)
- Modern policing to be implemented at the 22 remaining police stations in Kuala Lumpur this year with 11,500 officers deployed on the ground. - Bernama
