PARLIAMENT | Pakatan Harapan MPs this morning tried to block the Election Commission's redelineation report by citing the example of Dewan Rakyat Speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia's refusal to allow debate on the 1MDB issue as the matter was in court.

Before Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak could table a motion to debate the redelineation report in the Dewan Rakyat, Charles Santiago (DAP-Klang) stood up to ask about another motion he had submitted.

Charles' motion, which was rejected, was on a proposal to retract the redelineation report.

Mohamed Hanipa Maidan (Amanah-Sepang) then also interjected, asking why the question he submitted was rejected.

The question was on why the redelineation report, which is facing challenges in court, can proceed even though Pandikar had barred MPs from debating the 1MDB issue for the same reason, citing sub judice.

Pandikar stressed that he had made a decision and warned that further interruption would see MPs being ejected from the House.

However, Charles (photo) again interjected, insisting that the report was sub judice.

Joining in, Gobind Singh Deo (DAP-Puchong) insisted Pandikar must apply the same standard on 1MDB to the redelineation report.

"It's not fair. The ruling must be the same on all issues," said Gobind.

Pandikar then explained that the standing orders on sub judice do not apply to the redelineation report.

Citing the Federal Constitution, he said it is mandatory for the prime minister to table the redelineation report once he receives it.

Dissatisfied with the explanation, the opposition MPs continued to interject while BN MPs joined in to chastise the opposition, causing the House to descend into chaos.

Pandikar, however, said his decision was final.

"I am not required to give an explanation. Secretary, proceed, anyone who interrupts I will use my power (to eject)," he said.
