KINI ROUNDUP | Here are the key headlines you may have missed yesterday, in brief.

Signs of a Malay tsunami?

The bumper crowd at a Pakatan Harapan ceramah in Dr Mahathir Mohamad's home-state of Kedah on Thursday night has led DAP strategist Liew Chin Tong to once again urge Malaysia to brace for a "Malay tsunami".

Communications and Multimedia Minister Salleh Said Keruak, however, warned his opposition counterparts not to count their chickens before they hatched because past experience has shown that crowd numbers don't always translate into votes.

A straw poll of Chinese voters in Kepong, Kuala Lumpur showed that many do not recognise any Pakatan Harapan component party logo other than DAP's.

Who voted for EC's redelineation?

Malaysiakini goes through footage from the Dewan Rakyat sitting to establish who voted for and against the Election Commission's redelineation report, and also find out why some were absent from the crucial vote.

Analysts believe that Putrajaya refused to gazette new electoral boundaries for Sabah because 13 new seats there would have benefited Umno splinter group Parti Warisan Sabah.

Assuming voting trends and voter numbers have not changed since 2013, the new electoral boundaries will help Johor BN do better in the upcoming general election.

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang said the new boundaries will not affect his party much, despite the fact that PAS MPs all voted against the plan.

Other KiniBites

Johor Pakatan Harapan is holding back its announcement on their MB candidate over concerns that they may face a royal backlash.

Police paid electoral watchdog Bersih and human rights group Suaram a visit in connection with their protest held outside Parliament on Wednesday.

CIMB head Nazir Abdul Razak, who is also the prime minister's younger brother, urged Putrajaya to defer passage of the Anti-Fake News Bill 2018 so that it can be improved.

Some 500 people turn up at MCA's forum on the Penang tunnel project which had two seats reserved for Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng and DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang.

Looking ahead

Najib and his deputy Ahmad Zahid Hamidi will be campaigning on their home turfs of Pekan in Pahang and Bagan Datoh in Perak respectively.
