UPDATED 2.48PM | GE14 | Former law minister Zaid Ibrahim has claimed that Kelantan Bersatu offered him a “glamorous rural seat” but he turned down the offer.

“I'm not a superman, (I) can't do a good job in three weeks. Had to say no,” he said on Twitter.

Previously, the former Umno lawmaker, who is now a DAP member, complained about not being offered a seat to contest in the coming general election.

He also likened himself to DAP veteran Tan Seng Giaw who was not named as the candidate for the Kepong parliament seat, which the latter held for eight terms.

“He (Tan) was dumped after 30 years, I was done by just after 12 months. It must have hurt him a lot more,” said Zaid.

Meanwhile, Zaid also expressed appreciation for the Kelantan Bersatu leader who offered him the seat.

“So thoughtful of him. (He) Even assured me that rural and poor Malays accept me, only rent seekers and the rich don't,” he said.

He, however, did not reveal the name of the leader who supposedly called him nor the seat in question.

Meanwhile, Kelantan Bersatu chief Kamaruddin Mohd Noor declined to comment on Zaid's claim.

"I don't want to comment on anything," was all he said when contacted by Malaysiakini.

Zaid, who hails from Kelantan, was a former Umno Kota Bahru MP.

On April 5, Zaid revealed how he was dropped from a PKR ceramah because some felt that he would not appeal to the Malay audience.

In February, the former minister said he would only contest against either incumbent Johor Bahru MP Shahrir Abdul Samad or incumbent Padang Rengas MP Nazri Abdul Aziz.

He also claimed to have turned down a particular seat as it held no political significance to him.
