Najib warns of Teluk Intan 'creature'; PAS' pockets deep enough for GE14

KINI ROUNDUP | Key headlines you may have missed yesterday, in brief.

Najib warns of Teluk Intan 'creature'

Caretaker prime minister Najib Abdul Razak warned Teluk Intan voters of a fake news-loving "creature" headed their way, in reference to Perak DAP chief Nga Kor Ming's plans to contest in the constituency.

The BN chairperson also took a swipe at his opposition counterpart Dr Mahathir Mohamad, saying the latter's chain of bakeries The Loaf probably closed down because the bread may not have been tasty.

Najib also slammed DAP for its treatment of Tan Seng Giaw, claiming that the incumbent Kepong MP was dropped for “speaking the truth” on the caretaker PM playing no part in the 1MDB scandal.

Meanwhile, three women were arrested in Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Kuala Lumpur for taking down BN flags and bringing them to the police station.

MIC warned its BN coalition partner MyPPP not to hold Najib at “ransom” after it threatened to quit BN if not given the Cameron Highlands parliamentary seat to contest.

PAS' pocket's deep enough for GE14

PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan assured that the party has enough funds to contest in 160 seats in GE14, with most of these coming from contributions of party members and supporters.

Former PAS leader Mahfuz Omar had earlier questioned how the party could afford to contest that many seats.

Takiyuddin also said that Nik Omar Nik Aziz, the son of late former spiritual leader Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat, could leave PAS if he is sceptical about the party's chances of winning GE14.

More family drama was averted when the nephew of PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, Miqdad Zakaria of Amanah, backed down from squaring off against his uncle for the Marang seat.

Just days before nomination, Selangor Amanah election chief Jaafar Samsuddin quit the party, claiming ill treatment.

Former IGP Khalid Abu Bakar and caretaker minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob were ordered to pay a total of RM1 million to PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar for defamatory comments over her meeting with 'Sulu princess' Jacel Kiram.

Umno secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor denied that the party was now ‘illegal’ due to its party elections being postponed.
