GE14 | MyPPP president M Kayveas has been warned by MIC Youth chief C Sivarraajh against holding caretaker prime minister Najib Abdul Razak to “ransom” by threatening to pull the party out of BN.

Kayveas had said yesterday that MyPPP’s membership in the ruling coalition might be “reconsidered” after an impending meeting with Najib, if it were not allocated the Cameron Highlands seat in the 14th general election.  

Sivarraajh urged him today not to make such threats, especially with the election around the corner.

MIC and MyPPP are both BN component parties.

“At this juncture, I don’t think that it is appropriate to do this because the (caretaker) prime minister is trying to win more seats.

“Being a senior politician and president of the party, he (Kayveas) should not take Najib for ransom and threaten him. I think it’s not right, he should leave it to the BN leadership to decide (seat allocations).

“‘Kalau tak bagi kerusi, saya nak keluar BN’ (If you don't give me a seat, I want out of BN), that is not the BN spirit,” he told a press conference at the MIC headquarters in KL today.

Yesterday, Kayveas teased his 'leaving BN' ultimatum and warned that Cameron Highlands voters might revolt against BN if his party did not contest there.

"The MyPPP supreme council has unanimously decided to remain with BN.

"However, this may be reconsidered after the meeting between the MyPPP president and the BN chairperson before the finalisation of seats," he had said.

Kayveas has reportedly been offered Segambut, which is a DAP stronghold. He has rejected the offer.

Work together for BN victory

At today’s press conference, Sivarraajh reiterated that he was not a MyPPP member, as previously purported by Kayveas.

He also maintained that MIC would not hand-over Cameron Highlands to any other party and urged MyPPP to work together with MIC to ensure BN’s victory in the 14th general election.

“We delivered this seat to BN (in previous elections) and there is no reason to hand over the seat to anyone.

“If MyPPP gets the Segambut seat, we will go all out and help them and make sure we engage with young voters.

“And in the same spirit, I hope Kayveas will direct his machinery to help with BN in MIC seats to help us win,” he added.

Sivarraajjh is widely speculated to contest in the seat, which Kayveas has actively lobbied for since 2013.
