Rosmah recalls 'diamond' trap; Umno's dissolution sought

KINI ROUNDUP | Key headlines you may have missed yesterday, in brief.

Rosmah recalls 'diamond' trap

Caretaker prime minister's wife Rosmah Mansor accused PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli of trying to trap her and her husband with "half-truths" over a RM24 million diamond ring that she had viewed in 2011.

Rosmah told Lembah Pantai Wanita BN members that the incumbent MP Nurul Izzah Anwar was disrespectful because the latter would call her by her full name instead of “Datin Seri Rosmah” or “Aunty Rosmah” or “Mak Cik Rosmah”, even though they have been acquainted for a long time.

To this, Nurul Izzah said she apologised if she had inadvertently done that, but added that her focus was on systemic reforms to ensure no dictator will ever abuse the prime minister's office.

Speaking alongside Rosmah was Wanita Umno head Shahrizat Abdul Jalil, who criticised Umno veterans, including her predecessor Rafidah Aziz, for being critical of their party.

This led to an immediate rebuke by Rafidah, who said she had every right to criticise the government on matters of public interest.

Umno's dissolution sought

Sixteen Umno members are seeking a court order to invalidate a Registrar of Societies (ROS) approval for the party to postpone its party election until next April.

The group is arguing that the party's national leadership had ceased to exist yesterday and hence Najib Abdul Razak cannot sign the party's appointment letters for election candidates.

DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang argued that ROS' had violated the law by allowing Umno to postpone its election for the second time.

Umno supreme council member Nazri Abdul Aziz refused to make any assumptions on how Umno weather this latest storm and said the public should let the courts decide.

Other KiniBites

PAS central committee member Mohd Zuhdi Marzuki claimed that the recent RM1.5 million and RM1 million deposits received by the Islamist party were donations from an unnamed individual, and stressed that these were not from Umno.

The changing electoral demographics of southern Johor was in part due to the influx of Malaysians who are living in the area, but are working in Singapore.

Former Johor DAP chief Dr Boo Cheng Hau has urged party leaders who have been charged with corruption to resign.

Looking ahead

BN chairperson Najib Abdul Razak is expected to finalise the list of BN candidates today.
