GE14 | PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali has shot down the decision by some of the party's grassroots to protest against Pakatan Harapan chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad's plan to use PKR's logo in GE14.

Azmin deemed the protesters “irresponsible,” “irrelevant” and “disrespectful” of the party's decision to allow its allies to use its ‘eye’ symbol.

"They should focus on helping the opposition candidates win in the election," Azmin told reporters in Pinang Tunggal.

The caretaker Selangor MB also came to the defence of Mahathir, saying the Harapan chair still has a role to play in the May 9 polls.

"We will unite as a formidable force against BN and I urge all of them to do the same," he said.

Yesterday, about 50 PKR grassroots members, from the states of Selangor, Perak and Kedah, rallied at the party headquarters in Petaling Jaya to protest against Mahathir using the party’s logo in the coming election.

Bukit Gantang PKR Youth deputy chief Muhamad Faisal Zainal had also issued his party an ultimatum, saying that Harapan has six days to drop Mahathir from its list of candidates, or face reprisal in the form of mass resignations from the party.

Claiming they the group had the backing of 120,000 members, Faisal argued that PKR was founded in 1999 as a response to the former's "cruel" acts against PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim.

Azmin also dismissed their upcoming protest, which will take place in front of the party office in Seberang Jaya, as a "non-issue."
