GE14 | BN has announced its candidate for Federal Territories for the May 9 polls, in which Umno will continue to contest six seats out of the total 13, while four will be contested by MCA.

MCA confirmed losing Bandar Tun Razak to Umno, but managed to take back Wangsa Maju, which was loaned to the biggest ruling party in 2013, under Umno’s "give one, take one" approach to seat negotiations.

Bandar Tun Razak will be contested by Persiaran Kilang Umno Youth leader Adnan Abu Seman.

Two caretaker ministers, Johari Abdul Ghani and Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor, have been announced as Titiwangsa and Putrajaya candidates respectively.

Other Umno candidates are Lembah Pantai Umno chief Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin (Lembah Pantai), and ambassador to the United States Zulhasnan Rafique (Setiawangsa). Both are former Umno ministers.

Incumbent Labuan MP Rozman Isli will defend his seat.

Federal Territories MCA chief Yew Teong Look will contest in Wangsa Maju for the third time.

Three others MCA candidates are newcomers. They are Cheras Wanita MCA chief Heng Sinn Yee (Cheras), Bukit Bintang Wanita MCA chief Ann Tan Ean Ean (Bukit Bintang) and Seputeh MCA assistant secretary Chan Quin Er (Seputeh).

Gerakan's candidates, meanwhile, are Kepong Gerakan parliamentary coordinator Ong Siang Liang (Kepong) and Gerakan vice-president Dominic Lau (Batu).

MyPPP vice president Loga Bala Mohan is announced as Segambut candidate, which had been contested by Gerakan for five terms since the seat was created for the 1995 polls.

The candidates received their letters of appointment from Tengku Adnan, who is also the Federal Territories BN chairperson. BN also unveiled its manifesto for the region today.

BTR and Segambut 'loans'

At a press conference later, Tengku Adnan said MCA had 'loaned' Bandar Tun Razak to Umno and took back Wangsa Maju in return, while Gerakan willingly 'loaned' Segambut to MyPPP.

This was evidence of BN uniqueness, he said, with parties being able to reach a consensus on seat allocations.

"We are thankful to MCA for allowing us to put an Umno candidate in Bandar Tun Razak.

"Looking at the situation there, we feel that we have a fighting chance to regain the seat from the opposition.

"As for Wangsa Maju, the seat was loaned to us in the last polls and we lost. So, we discussed it with MCA, and they appealed to have the seat back," he said.

Tengku Adnan then described the candidates as village heads who are ready to serve their communities.

On picking Zulhasnan - who will resign as US envoy tomorrow - over incumbent Setiawangsa MP Ahmad Fauzi Zahari, Tengku Adnan said that the former was the people's choice.

"It's just like me, I am already four-term Putrajaya MP, but the analysis conducted found that the people want me to contest in Putrajaya. So, what can I do ?" he added.

Tengku Adnan also took a potshot at the opposition, calling them "pests" that should be swatted by voters in the May 9 polls.
