GE14 | BN's candidate for Puchong, David Ang, today led a protest against the operators of the Lebuhraya Damansara-Puchong (LDP) while taking potshots at incumbent Puchong MP Gobind Singh Deo and the Pakatan Harapan state government.

In a statement, Ang said the Puchong township was surrounded by toll booths operated by four major highway concessionaires and his first priority, if elected as Puchong MP, was to see these booths removed.

Ang accused Gobind of allegedly failing to fulfil his previous election pledge of removing the toll booths primarily because the Selangor state government owned a 20 percent stake in Lingkaran Trans Kota Holdings Bhd (Litrak) - the LDP operator.

"I hope Puchong voters will give me a chance to serve them and remove the toll booths, which will benefit 90,000 people in Puchong," he said in a statement.

Ang also accused Harapan of hypocrisy, noting how the coalition had promised to abolish the tolls, while at the same time the Selangor government had an interest in new high projects such as the Sungai Besi-Ulu Klang Elevated Expressway (Suke), East Klang Valley Expressway (EKVE) and Damansara-Shah Alam Elevated Expressway (Dash).

"They are claiming that they will remove toll booths when they win (and form the federal government).

"But in Selangor, they are backing three new highways which include six toll booths... If they cannot act as a state government, how can voters be sure that they will do so as the federal government?" asked Ang.

He also pointed out that the Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) had a 30 percent stake in Shah Alam Expressway (Kesas) and while Kumpulan Perangsang Selangor (KPS) had a 20 percent stake in Sprint Expressway.

"These are all state government agencies, but both Kesas and Sprint are imposing toll charges," he said.

Gobind is a two-term Puchong MP and Selangor DAP deputy chief. Ang is the Selangor Gerakan chairperson.
