The Petaling Jaya Council (MBPJ) has zoned a total of 85 acres of land for public amenities including for Selangor's first Tamil secondary school near the Rubber Research Institute in Sungei Buloh.

The school will be built on eight acres of land allocated and zoned under the Kwasa Damansara (Petaling Jaya) special area action plan.

The special area action plan was approved by MBPJ last December after two rounds of public participation and feedback.

It is currently awaiting endorsement by the state government.

The plan also makes available land and zoning permissions for other vernacular and national-type schools. They are:

  • Six acres each for national, Chinese and Tamil primary schools;
     
  • Six acres for “sekolah agama” (Islamic syllabus schools); and
     
  • Eights acres each for national-type, Chinese and Tamil secondary schools.

Other amenities provided under the special area action plan include:

  • 12 acres of land for mosques;
     
  • Two acres of land each for churches and Chinese and Hindu temples;
     
  • 18 acres of land for Muslim cemeteries;
     
  • 18 acres of land for non-Muslim cemeteries; and
     
  • 15 acres of land for government hospitals.

The Kwasa Damansara special area action plan also provides for affordable housing, commercial and residential components including parks and open spaces in its development.

When contacted, MBPJ councillor Derek Fernandez told Malaysiakini the provision of such public amenities for a multiracial population was part of the Selangor government’s “nobody gets left behind” policy.

This ensured that the physical planning and development of the state would benefit all quarters, he added.
