GE14 | Family members of the late PAS spiritual adviser Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat is remaining with the party despite the sudden exit of his eldest son Nik Omar to join the opposition.

Nik Aziz's nephew, Dusuki Abdul Rani (above), said this in denying claims by incumbent Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad that PAS splinter party Amanah would attract more support in GE14 as it better reflected Nik Aziz's moderate stance on Islam compared to PAS' current leadership.

"That is not true. I am tok guru's (Nik Aziz) nephew. My cousin Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, PAS deputy president, is also his nephew.

"Nik Zawawi (Nik Muhammad Zawawi Nik Salleh) in Pasir Puteh is another of Nik Aziz's nephew," said Dusuki.

Dusuki is PAS' candidate for Kota Anggerik, a state seat under Shah Alam where Khalid is defending his seat for a third term.

Dusuki pointed out that even Nik Omar's brother Nik Abduh and their mother, Tuan Sabariah Tuan Ishak has staunchly remained with PAS after Nik Aziz's passing in 2015.

"So there is no such thing (Amanah embracing Nik Aziz's values)... they are just finding ways to lie to the people," said the ustaz when met after a press conference at Selangor PAS headquarters in Shah Alam.

Dusuki further implied that Nik Omar's decision to contest again PAS, despite his own mother's disapproval, was part of a larger "evil ploy" to break the family apart.

"Nik Omar was led and taken away (from PAS). We say this is an ongoing evil ploy.

"It is a betrayal to the people, (and) an attempt to break apart our family," he said.

"Nik Omar previously said his mother did not give him her blessings to contest. So they (Amanah) already knew...Our family also knew that.

"But Nik Omar suddenly went ahead to do it (join Amanah) anyway. So that he has to answer to Allah SWT. There is no bigger sin on this earth than the sin of going against your mother's wishes, aside from syirik (idolatry)," he stressed.

Dusuki also urged Khalid to repent for his betrayal to PAS and warned that voters in Shah Alam will punish him through the ballot box.

Nik Omar was sacked from PAS on Saturday with immediate effect, after he submitted his nomination papers as a Pakatan Harapan candidate for the Chempaka state seat in Kelantan under Amanah.

Nik Omar, however, defended his move and said it was the only possible way to ensure better governance of the country, which he felt was through Harapan.

The late Nik Aziz, who had served as Kelantan menteri besar and PAS spiritual leader for many years, was the Chempaka assemblyperson for five terms since 1995 until his passing in 2015.

He was also the key to PAS’ participation in the former Pakatan Rakyat coalition that triggered the political tsunami of 2008 that saw BN losing five states.
