UPDATED 5.07PM | GE14 | PAS has sacked late spiritual leader Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat's second son, following the latter's nomination as a Pakatan Harapan candidate.
PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan at a press conference said Nik Omar Nik Aziz (above) has now been sacked with immediate effect, for contesting in the Chempaka state seat under Amanah's ticket.
“Nik Omar's act has insulted the political stand of his family members," claimed Takiyuddin.
Nik Omar is touted to be the potential menteri besar candidate for Kelantan if Harapan wins the state in the May 9 polls.
Speculation had been rife that Amanah had recruited Nik Omar after its menteri besar-designate Husam Musa's datukship had been stripped by Sultan Muhammad V.
Husam's candidacy for the Kota Baru parliamentary seat and Salor state seat was confirmed today after he had submitted his nomination papers.
Chempaka is a seat previously held by Nik Omar's late father and former Kelantan menteri besar Nik Aziz.
Earlier today, Nik Omar turned up at Pengkalan Chepa to submit his nomination form for the Kelantan state seat.
Takiyuddin said: "His action in joining the opposition led by DAP cannot be accepted and (would be) perceived as bringing shame to his family.
"Nik Omar's move does not impact our influence at all, as he is just a nobody and (was an) ordinary PAS member," he said.
PAS had earlier threatened to issue Nik Omar a show cause letter over his candidacy under the PAS splinter group's banner.
