Yoursay: As desperation sinks in, even Shahrir plays racial card

YOURSAY | ‘By resorting to racial fear-mongering, it proves BN is bankrupt of ideas.’

Malay tsunami is strategy to destroy Malay institutions - Shahrir

Varuna: Felda chairperson Shahrir Abdul Samad’s opinion would be seen as rather ill-conceived and would be disputed by all Malays in Pakatan Harapan, who would argue that they are up against the likes of him precisely because they want to protect and promote the genuine interests of “Malay institutions”.

There seems to be increasing conviction nowadays amongst a broader section of Malaysians that Malays, who are predominant in Harapan, will not forsake - as is the apprehension now - the true and honourable tradition of Malay institutions and leadership, both for the Malays and non-Malays.

It seems that Shahrir is dismissive, perhaps from the comfort of his own circumstances, of the real world socio-economic hardships and challenges facing many, many Malaysians.

Gerard Lourdesamy: Shahrir, when Umno/BN is under pressure, you resort to fear-mongering and racial sentiments. It proves that you and BN are bankrupt of ideas.

Harapan cannot abolish Malay institutions without the consent of the Malay rulers and a two-thirds majority in Parliament.

A total of 175 Harapan candidates for parliament seats are Malays, with 37 Chinese and 10 Indians. Do you think that the Malay leadership in Harapan under Mahathir and the Malay/bumiputera MPs in Harapan would allow this to happen?

They will continue to defend and protect Malay institutions. It is Umno that has weakened Malay institutions like Felda, Armed Forces Fund Board (LTAT) and Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) by misusing and abusing their funds to fund corruption, abuses and kleptocracy.

Harapan will address this issue. Why should these bodies be helmed by Umno politicians? There is so much political interference to the extent that billions have been misappropriated from these institutions. Is that serving the Malay agenda?

Stop spreading fake news, Shahrir. After years in Umno, you have zero credibility now and questionable integrity. So why should Malays believe you?

The Malays have woken up. They see Umno for what it is.

Newday: Shahrir, why fear the Malay tsunami? It is not as you so falsely describe. There has not been even one hint, suggestion or statement anytime or anywhere from any opposition parties that they will dismantle the institutions you mentioned.

We jail a Danish national for exaggerating police response times under the Anti-Fake News Law. Yet, here you are telling and selling blatant lies of far graver consequence than police response times.

Here you are, desperately trying to protect the corrupt at higher levels in these institutions, when the evidence indicates that the shareholders and public have been ripped off on a serial and methodical basis.

This appears to not matter to you. All that matters to you is to twist the issue into a fabricated and planned Malay tsunami to dismantle institutions that no one wants dismantled.

There will be a Malay tsunami next Wednesday, Shahrir - the one you won't like.

Undecided: Shahrir said the political tsunami planned by the opposition began after GE13 with an attack on Malay institutions, important bodies for the Malays such as Tabung Haji, Tabung Angkatan Tentera and Felda.

What a baseless accusation, Shahrir. On the contrary, Harapan has been trying their best to save these institutions from blatant corruption.

They were aiming for the corrupt management, which if allowed to continue, would truly destroy these institutions.

Shahrir, you are one of those Umno leaders that many Harapan supporters still respect. There is no point trying to save Umno. Save your own reputation and honour instead.

Anonymous_79054820: Malay institutions are not owned by Umno. The Harapan government would protect them better because it would definitely value the mandate given.

We hope BN will become the federal opposition in Parliament and perform the duty of providing checks and balances. It's high time that BN should become the opposition.

Let the new breed of young politicians take over BN, and we would have a real two-party system in our democracy. This is healthy for the nation.

Clever Voter: Indeed, the so-called Malay institutions have, for a very long time, been used as a cash till for Umno. Even more recently, Mara funds have been used for allegedly dirty deals overseas.

Felda is a classic case, showing a very obvious list of beneficiaries from the day they went public. Most of the unit trust funds set up by agencies are in the red, not forgetting too the various joint state agencies to help bumiputeras, which are not exactly doing well.

The self-serving politicians from BN have also been suspected of putting their hands into the Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) cash pots.

Shahrir is talking nonsense, and he has no evidence whatsoever except to drive fear into hearts of some of the gullible die-hard Umno voters. This is the same message played over again. It would be a surprise if his message is taken seriously this time round.

Anonymous 2456321485312809: This tired old horse is always trotted out by BN to fish for votes. It clearly shows that the BN politicians do not have any concrete ideas to offer to Malaysians to justify any sort of support for them.

It is not possible, and it will be political suicide, to dismantle the Malay institutions. What is more than likely to happen is that all institutions in the country, especially the Malay institutions, will be in better hands.

Please vote for change, kill off blatant racism and kleptocracy, and allow the country to heal.

Anonymous 2405191458063842: The Malay tsunami, as bandied about by the opposition, is actually about awakening the Malays to the rot and decay, getting them to act before it is too late.

By “act”, the opposition means for the Malays to choose wisely who they want to lead them to a better future. The opposition is not the one destroying the so-called Malay institutions.

Be honest. Who are the ones who made these institutions lose money? Who are the ones who took their lands on the cheap?
