GE14 | Harapan's Segambut candidate Hannah Yeoh has pledged to push for the gazetting of Bukit Kiara as the only forest left in Kuala Lumpur.

Addressing a crowd of some 3,000 people tonight, Yeoh said she had promised to address issues surrounding the residents' struggle to save Bukit Kiara as their green lung.

"Bukit Kiara, back in 2007, the cabinet has agreed to gazette it. But until today, more than 10 years later, it has remained ungazetted," she said

"And if you don't send in a new government to Putrajaya, I am afraid that Bukit Kiara can go missing. Because anything that is left in the hands of crooks will go missing," she stressed.

"And therefore this is my pledge to you the people of Segambut.

"If I am given the mandate to represent you in Parliament, I will fight for Bukit Kiara to be gazetted," she said as the crowd chanted "Save Bukit Kiara!".

Yeoh, who was moved to contest in the Segambut parliament seat from the Subang Jaya state seat, also said she had personally taken a walk at Bukit Kiara and understood the residents' struggle to save it from being sold to a private developer.

"I went for a walk today in Bukit Kiara. I can understand why you love it so much.

"There are many people who are so passionate about it and the residents here have given me information and documents to study about the sale of Taman Rimba Kiara," she said.

At the same time, Yeoh also took a swipe at a local columnist who wrote to endorse her opponent, MyPPP vice-president Loga Bala Mohan as the new Segambut MP.

Loga Bala was quoted as saying that he would revisit all of the upcoming development projects that threatened to encroach on Taman Rimba Kiara.

Yeoh, however, urged the crowd to not fall for such promises.

"Let us not be misled... Loga Bala was the former deputy federal territories minister," said Yeoh who pointed out that her opponents should have fought against the projects while he was still in office.

In the battle for Segambut, Yeoh would be going up against Loga Bala and PAS' Mohd Solleh Abdul Razak.
