Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin has been tasked with coming up with proposals to restructure the party and the BN coalition.
The announcement was made by Umno vice-president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is also the acting party head, after a supreme council meeting today.
"I have been tasked by Zahid as the BN chairperson and the supreme council to come up with proposals for the restructuring of BN and Umno.
"Within a month, we will present a few options for BN and Umno in terms of ideology, structure and groundwork," he told a press conference at the party's headquarters in Kuala Lumpur today.
Khairy, who is also BN Youth chief, promised that all stakeholders will be involved in the process.
"We will be as inclusive as possible to get all views from BN (partners) to come up with a plan," he said.
BN, under the leadership of former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak, was defeated for the first time since independence, ending its 61-year hold on power.
Since then, three components parties have quit the coalition, namely the United Pasokmomogun Kadazandusun Murut Organisation, Liberal Democratic Party and Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah.
Other component parties are also reviewing their positions in the coalition.
