Dr Mahathir Mohamed was today congratulated on his appointment as Prime Minister and the formation of the new government by his Japanese counterpart, Shinzo Abe.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office in a statement, Abe called Mahathir at 11.45 am and both talked about strengthening bilateral ties.
They also discussed the impending visit by Mahathir to Japan next month for the annual Nikkei Conference.
Mahathir also expressed his appreciation over Japan’s assistance in Malaysia’s development and hoped the two countries would continue to work together.
