New MB takes over in Selangor; Guan Eng says exposés ordered by PM

KINI ROUNDUP | Here are the key headlines you may have missed yesterday, in brief.

New MB takes over in Selangor

PKR Sungai Tua assemblyperson Amirudin Shari was sworn in as the new Selangor menteri besar.

Hours before the swearing-in, another PKR candidate for the post, Dr Idris Ahmad, claimed that Amirudin's appointment did not get consensus from Pakatan Harapan.

However, this was disputed by the previous menteri besar and Selangor PKR chief Mohamed Azmin Ali.

PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail also dismissed the claim, pointing out that Amirudin's was one of three names submitted to the Selangor palace for the post of menteri besar.

De facto PKR leader Anwar Ibrahim said that the decision had been made, and urged support for Amirudin.

Guan Eng says exposés ordered by PM

Anwar suggested that Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng should leave revelations of financial scandals to other ministers, given that his position is "sensitive" and watched closely by foreign investors.

However, Lim said he was revealing the scandals on the instruction of Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, adding that the government should not hide the truth from the people.

Umno accused the Harapan government of trying to make the previous BN administration look bad with such revelations, which has resulted in investors being spooked.

Institutional Reform Committee member Ambiga Sreenevasan said the panel has submitted seven recommendations to the Council of Eminent Persons.

She added that some of the proposed institutional reforms are aimed at not allowing another scandal like 1MDB to happen again.

In an interview, Mahathir said multiple criminal charges will be brought against former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak over the 1MDB affair.

Setev Shaariibuu called for the case on the murder of his daughter Altantuya to be reopened, stressing that the mastermind is yet to be identified.

He also shared that Altantuya's youngest son still believes that his mother is alive.

Lawyer Ramkarpal Singh, representing Setev, said there were new leads which warranted the case to be reopened.

Setev will be meeting Mahathir to appeal for the case to be reopened.
