Putrajaya to extend RM2.8bil to TRX

Putrajaya said it will fork out RM2.8 billion for the Tun Razak Exchange (TRX) to avoid it becoming a failed project.

Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad and DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang panned former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak for pleading ignorance in the 1MDB scandal.

Authorities are reportedly looking at funds originating from 1MDB which benefited BN parties.

A leaked ticketing system document purportedly showed Najib received a waiver of RM17,071.85 for 535kg of excess baggage from Malaysia Airlines (MAS).

However, MAS clarified that no waiver was granted but it was instead a case of placing the baggage of the entire entourage under Najib's name.

Zahid claims of future Umno-GPS cooperation

Acting Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi claimed Sarawak Chief Minister Abang Johari Openg told him Gabungan Parti Sarawak was open to working with Umno if it can capture Putrajaya.

However, PBB denied any meeting between Johari and Zahid took place.

Zahid refuted Mahathir's claim that the former met him to seek advice on how to run Umno.

He also turned down a debate challenge from his opponents in the Umno presidency race. However, he said he was willing to declare his assets before the June 30 polls.

On a separate matter, Zahid urged Umno to learn to cope as the opposition.

Support letters banned

Education Minister Maszlee Malik revealed that the cabinet had decided to impose a ban on support letters that could have financial implications.

Bersih proposed that its former leaders or judges are considered for the position of the new Election Commission (EC) chief.

MACC chief Shukri Abdull said civil servants must do away with the culture of apple-polishing.

He also revealed there had been a deluge of tip-offs on corruption after a new government was installed and that the MACC is acting on such information. 

Mahathir said he is considering a proposal to lower the voting age from 21 to 18. 

Economic Affairs Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali ordered a forensic audit of Felda.
