Umno Youth finally has its 20-member exco line-up, after the winners from a total of 183 contenders were announced today.

Controversial blogger Papagomo, the pen name of Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris, made the cut after coming in at 16th place.

Wan Muhammad was most recently in the news after being found guilty of defaming de facto PKR leader Anwar Ibrahim and subsequently pleading for leniency, claiming he was a fisherman.

Akmal Saufi Mohamed Khaled, meanwhile, failed to make the cut for an Umno Youth exco post.

Akmal Saufi is the son of former Johor menteri besar Mohamed Khaled Nordin – himself running for one of the three Umno vice-president posts.

Wan Muhammad Azri, in a statement later, thanked Umno delegates for voting him.

"I am offering myself at a time when Umno is being tested when it does not have the power of a government. It is not an easy task but a challenging one.

"If I am someone who worships money, I would not have offered myself to serve the party at the time when it is without power. I will not run from the party even though it is without power," he said.

Wan Muhammad Azri also noted that his "past sins" were mentioned in this story but stressed that everyone would have past wrongs.

He pointed to the example of Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad and former deputy prime minister Anwar Ibrahim, citing the sodomy case.

"If we looked at their sins and their current situation, what is it when compared to my sins and the current position I hold.

"I do not wish to look to the past. I want to look forward and improve the situation for the better. May Allah forgive our past sins," he said.

The elections for the Umno wings took place yesterday while the supreme council election will take place on June 30.
