Harapan leaders reminded not to discriminate opposition-led states

The Pakatan Harapan government has been urged not to discriminate in the handing out of funds for the development of villages.

Selangor PKR Women's Youth chief Nurainie Haziqah Shafii said all states should receive the funds, not just the Harapan-governed states.

Nurainie was responding to Rural Development Minister Rina Mohd Harun, who said yesterday that the Village Development and Security Committees (JKKK) will be restructured and rebranded as the Village Community Management Councils (MPKK), which will receive grants worth RM10,000.

However, Rina was reported by Bernama as saying these grants, with an annual overall allocation not exceeding RM100 million, would be distributed to Harapan-led states and would benefit 10,000 out of 16,481 villages nationwide.

The mechanism for the other states was still under review and is expected to be completed in another month’s time, according to Rina.

“I disagree with this statement and ask that it be reviewed because, from the start of Harapan, our main principle was not to discriminate any rakyat and state that is not under Harapan’s administration,” Nurainie said in a statement today.

“This government is a government for all. Harapan leaders must ensure this principle does not discriminate any of those who are not under Harapan,” she said.

After coming into power, Harapan said it would do away with the previous BN administration’s JKKK as it had been subject to political interference.
