SG KANDIS POLLS | PAS has officially urged its supporters in Sungai Kandis to vote in the Aug 4 by-election, and stressed that the party does not support Pakatan Harapan.

"In the context of Sungai Kandis, PAS has decided not to support the Harapan government. The message we are sending is that they have failed to fulfil several election pledges.

"They also failed to guarantee that Islam, the monarchy and the interest of Malays are not threatened," PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan said in a statement today.

In view of this, he said PAS leaders who joined in canvassing efforts in Sungai Kandis did not violate the party stand on the by-election.

He urged PAS supporters in Sungai Kandis to fulfil their responsibility to vote, and stressed that they must not spoil their ballots.

Earlier today, PAS spiritual leader Hashim Jasin was quoted saying that there are no instructions from the party to members and supporters who will be voting in the by-election this Saturday.

However, Hashim said he believes that they are wise enough to choose between the BN and Harapan candidates.

Last week, PAS central committee member Nik Abduh Nik Azizs said he believes that PAS wants its members to vote for Umno in the by-election, citing five signs which pointed to this.

Come Saturday, Harapan's Zawawi Ahmad Mughni will face BN's Lokman Noor Adam and independent candidate K Murthy.

The state seat fell vacant after the death of assemblyperson Mat Shuhaimi Shafie on July 2 from lymphoma.

He won Sungai Kandis with a 12,480-vote majority in the 14th general election.
