Pasir Gudang MP and Johor PKR chief Hassan Abdul Karim has filed a notice of appeal to the Shah Alam High Court, following the discharge not amounting to an acquittal he received last week for three sedition charges.

His lawyer Eric Paulsen told Malaysiakini that the notice was filed yesterday.

Hassan is seeking to be acquitted of three counts of sedition for posting three tweets in 2014 about the Selangor menteri besar crisis, in which he allegedly made seditious remarks against the Selangor sultan.

On July 27, the prosecution agreed to withdraw Hassan's sedition charges.

However, Sessions Court judge Ahmad Zamzani Mohd Zain did not allow an acquittal.

A discharge not amounting to an acquittal means that Hassan can be charged again for the offence.
