Kota Anggerik assemblyperson Najwan Halimi, the former aide to PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim, has become the third contestant for the PKR Youth chief post.

He will be going up against Seberang Jaya assemblyperson Afif Bahardin and Johor Bahru MP Akmal Nasrullah Nasir.

Both Najwan and Afif are seen to be closely aligned with incumbent PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali, while Akmal is a protégé of another contender for the deputy post, Rafizi Ramli.

Najwan's running mate will be Malacca PKR Youth deputy chief Naqiuddin Nazrin.

The pair will contest under the banner of 'AMK (PKR Youth) Malaysia'.

In a joint statement issued today, the duo said they wanted to unite the Youth wing regardless of the various differences among its members.

They also want a "warlord culture" to be put aside, following the outcome of the May 9 polls.

Najwan's entry changes the dynamics of the PKR election, at least on the youth level.

Previously the election was set to be focused on the clash between those either aligned to Azmin or Rafizi.
