The bilateral meeting between Malaysia and Singapore on the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High-Speed Rail (HSR) issue will take place within the month, Economic Affairs Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali said today.
“The official meeting will take place sometime in August.
“Yesterday I was there to visit (Home Minister) Muhyiddin Yassin, and I took that opportunity to meet some senior officials in Singapore to discuss the HSR... the meeting was very positive.
“I will issue a statement (about this),” he told members of the press when met at the Parliament lobby today.
Yesterday, Azmin tweeted that he was in Singapore for a working visit.
He had also tweeted his meeting with Muhyiddin, who is recovering from surgery there.
Singapore has been seeking Putrajaya’s official decision on the HSR since June.
Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad previously said that Singapore ought to know Putrajaya’s stance on the mega-transportation project.
Among the first things Mahathir did as premier was to scrap the HSR, citing high costs and unprofitability.
"We will make no money at all from this operation," he had said.
The KL-Singapore HSR was previously said to cost some RM110 billion.
